BMP-2 DRIVER TRAINING SIMULATOR

Mechanised Infantry Centre & School (MIC&S), Ahmednagar / Ahilyanagar — platform handling and terrain familiarisation in VR.

THE ESTABLISHMENT

CONTEXT

MIC&S is the Indian Army establishment responsible for technical and tactical aspects of Infantry Combat Vehicles (ICVs), and for technical training of soldiers across arms equipped with ICVs. It was re-designated from the Mechanised Infantry Regimental Centre in September 2021.

Project objective: create an immersive driving environment allowing trainees to become familiar with BMP-2 driving procedures, vehicle behaviour and different terrain conditions before depending entirely on the physical vehicle.

THE SYSTEM

FROM FIRST-TIME TRAINEE TO PLATFORM FAMILIARITY

Indian Army trainee using the VR Astra simulator station with headset and physical controls

The trainee operates through a physical control environment with vehicle-specific, mapped control interfaces while PCVR provides the external driving environment. The system reproduces the operating workflow, visual environment, control interaction and driving context required by the training syllabus.

  • PCVR headset and immersive driving environment
  • Physical controls mapped to the BMP-2
  • Configurable terrain — desert, snow track, forest, water crossing
  • Instructor control: exercise, terrain, difficulty, training or assessment mode
  • Assessment and reporting on every attempt

TRAINING VALUE

PRESERVE REAL PLATFORM TIME FOR ADVANCED TRAINING

Safe early-stage familiarisation

Inexperienced personnel practise before going onto the live platform.

Procedural repetition

Immediate restart and consistent exercises — repetition costs nothing but simulator time.

Less dependence on vehicles

Every practice attempt no longer needs vehicle availability, fuel and supervision.

Measurable assessment

Error replay and scoring against instructor-defined standards.

Instructor-defined progression

Difficulty, terrain and scenarios advance with demonstrated competence.

Complements field driving

Simulation prepares the trainee; it does not replace live driving.

ALSO DELIVERED

BMP-2 GUNNERY & DRONE OPERATIONS

BMP-2 IMS / gunnery training familiarises trainees with the vehicle weapon-system workflow at system level: interfaces and sight picture, control and switch interaction, target recognition, engagement workflow and crew procedure. Reports capture procedure completion, reaction and completion time, sequence errors, missed steps, target identification and engagement result.

Immersive drone operations simulator covers drone familiarisation and flight practice, surveillance and ISR exercises, navigation and terrain awareness, point-of-interest identification and instructor-defined missions across village, high-altitude, desert, forest, road and open terrain.
