MILITARY DRIVING SIMULATOR — B-VEHICLES, TRUCKS & 4×4S
VR military driving simulator for Indian Army B-vehicles — 4×4s and trucks, convoy and formation driving, difficult terrain, night and weather, emergencies and interactive maintenance. Static, 3DOF, 6DOF.

WHAT THE MILITARY DRIVING SIMULATOR DOES
Army drivers must handle 4×4s and trucks across deserts, plains, mountains and semi-urban routes; drive by day, night and in adverse weather; move in convoy and formation; negotiate confined spaces and steep gradients; and respond correctly to emergencies and vehicle faults. Every live repetition consumes fuel, causes wear and depends on vehicle and training-area availability.
The VR Astra B-vehicle simulator combines a VR headset, physical steering, pedals, gear and handbrake controls and an optional motion platform. Vehicle behaviour is configured for the platform the trainee will actually operate — dimensions, mass, powertrain, controls, suspension and off-road dynamics.
The simulator also teaches vehicle care: interactive pre-drive inspection, fault diagnosis and prescribed repair procedures. Make the first mistake in VR, then validate on the real vehicle.
TRAINING CAPABILITIES
Individual driving
- Starting, stopping, steering, gear changes, acceleration and braking
- Reversing, parking, turning and confined-area manoeuvring
- Hill starts, gradient driving and obstacle avoidance
- Familiarisation → practice → challenge → assessment
Convoy & formation
- Column and staggered movement
- Convoy vehicle-following and tactical spacing
- Formation changes, halt and restart
- Example: night mountain convoy with changing visibility
Terrain, weather & emergencies
- Desert, plains, mountains and semi-urban — plus custom Army routes
- Clear, rain, fog, dust and night
- Sudden obstacles, emergency braking and loss of traction
- Vehicle faults, route obstruction and confined-area recovery
Maintenance & fault diagnosis
- Pre-drive inspection: tyres, engine, fluids, battery, lights, brakes
- Low tyre pressure, engine overheating and electrical faults
- Identify → inspect → diagnose → repair → verify
- Army-approved procedures govern each exercise

STATIC, 3DOF OR 6DOF
Static
VR headset, physical controls and fixed seating.
Best for: Familiarisation, basic driving, procedures, formation practice, maintenance and assessment.
3DOF motion
Pitch, roll and yaw.
Best for: Gradients, cornering, braking, uneven terrain and intermediate exercises.
6DOF motion
Surge, sway, heave, roll, pitch and yaw.
Best for: Advanced off-road driving, severe gradients, difficult terrain and vehicle handling.
PROPOSED CURRICULUM
| Phase | Indicative time | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| Familiarisation | 2–4 h | Controls, systems and basic operation. |
| Vehicle handling | 4–6 h | Manoeuvring, reversing, gradients and obstacles. |
| Environment | 4–6 h | Night, rain, fog and terrain. |
| Operational | 4–6 h | Formation, convoy and emergencies. |
| Assessment | 2–4 h | Standard assessment and remediation. |
16–26 hours of indicative exposure — not a universal qualification standard. Competency gates lead to supervised live-vehicle validation.
EVERY SESSION IS MEASURED
- Steering accuracy, braking, acceleration and gear management
- Speed adherence, route and lane discipline, formation spacing
- Collisions, near misses, obstacle and emergency response
- Fault identification and maintenance procedure
- Individual and cohort progress across attempts
The instructor station creates, assigns and monitors each exercise, injects events and faults in real time, and reviews every attempt. Patterns across attempts show exactly which skill needs remedial training — so trainees repeat the weak skill, not the whole syllabus.
Your doctrine stays yours. Syllabus, procedures, scenarios and assessment criteria are defined by your instructors and SMEs; VR Astra turns them into repeatable, measurable simulation.
MILITARY DRIVING SIMULATOR — QUESTIONS
What is a B-vehicle driving simulator?
B-vehicles are the Army’s wheeled soft-skinned and logistics vehicles — 4×4s, personnel carriers and light, medium and heavy trucks. A B-vehicle driving simulator lets drivers practise handling, terrain, convoy movement, night driving, emergencies and maintenance in VR before using the real vehicle.
Which vehicles can be simulated?
General-service and utility 4×4s, personnel carriers, reconnaissance and support vehicles, and light, medium and heavy trucks — configured for the Army-specified platform, including dimensions, mass, powertrain, controls, suspension and off-road dynamics.
Can you recreate our own training area or route?
Yes. Custom terrain can be built from designated Army training areas, routes, approved maps and geospatial data, in addition to the standard desert, plains, mountain and semi-urban libraries.
Is the simulator suitable for civilian truck and fleet driver training?
Yes. The same platform can be configured for logistics, mining-haul and fleet operators who need safe practice on difficult routes, night driving and emergency handling, with measurable driver scoring.
What does the instructor control?
Vehicle type, load and mechanical condition; terrain, weather, time of day and visibility; route, formation, obstacles, traffic and events; and difficulty from beginner to assessment. Faults and events can be injected in real time.
